The records of the North Carolina State University College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Office of the Dean, Retention Program include reports concerning the implementation of changes that affect academic, advising, and faculty mentoring within the College. Materials reflect changes that begin in 1988. In 1906, the Mathematics Department was founded at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University). In 1960, the department joined with the Chemistry, Physics, and Experimental Statistics departments to form the School of Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics. The School became the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in 1987. In 1988 a new retention program was initiated designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of undergraduates who enter this college.
